What’s Left of Moron

Back in 1999 there was a Ska-Punk band in a suburb of Depok, south of Jakarta. They called themselves Moron. I have searched every inch of Google, tried to find Moron’s Ska Mania Compilation, but nothing. But, just weeks ago, I found these mp3s neglected in mp3 collection in my old hard drive.

I’ve waited so long for the new release of this punk-rock-ska band. This is one of Icha’s favorite band. A little bit late, I just finished listen to it, but sorry to say, I think this is not their best. First of all, I don’t like the cover art, honestly. Twelve songs, only three or four I like, but yes most of them are still Goldfingery. I like their ska tunes, but not as good as the ones on Hang Ups album.

One thing special, this album features The Used’s vocalist Bert and Monique Powell of Save Ferris. Monique rawks! (Hehehe). So if you miss her voice, you might want to check it out.

SUM 41 Mo Konser di Jakarta

Setelah nonton konser MxPx tempo hari, gw dah ngira-ngira band punk-rock mana lagi yang kira-kira mo bertandang ke Jakarta. Gw masih ngarepin band-band second wave punk sih. Sebab mereka tu dah senior banget, kapan lagi mo dateng ke Jakarta? Eh tapi, tadi malam Eci ngasih tau kalo ternyata SUM 41 sudah dijadwalkan mo manggung di Jakarta. Dan menurut gw ini pun juga ga kalah keren.

Gw bukan fans berat band asal Canada ini, album barunya juga blom pernah denger. Meskipun dipengaruhi band-band senior lainnya seperti Green Day dan Blink 182, band ini tampil beda dan punya warna sendiri, dan lagu-lagunya termasuk salah satu yang nyaman di telinga gw.

Band yang baru ngeluarin album barunya Underclass Hero ini sekarang jalan tanpa Dave, si lead guitaris keturunan India itu. Menurut Jakartaconcerts.com, MAA Promotions, promotornya SUM 41 merencanakan mo menggelar konser pada hari Sabtu, 3 Mei 2008.

MxPx Rawks Senayan Jakarta

Last night was great, I went to see ForNuFan, Superman is Dead, Rocket Rockers, and MxPx on stage. MxPx, one of their song – Middlename is one of my favorite, I find this rather hard to believe, they’re here in Jakarta. Awesome!!! You might want to check Icha’s weblog for quick review here.

Tiket Nonton Konser MxPx

Cihuy gw dah punya 2 tiket konser MxPx nihh!!! Rencananya besok mo nonton di Senayan ma Icha. Tahun kemaren NOFX dateng ke Jakarta, sekarang MxPx pula. Sebenernya gw ngarepin Rancid sih hehe.. tapi gpp.. tetep canggih deh, mudah-mudahan makin banyak band Punk yang dateng ke Jakarta.

Tiket ini gw beli di Rajakarcis.com, dapet poster lagi. Gw ga beli online. Gw samperin aja tokonya di deket Pasar Raya Manggarai. Tiketnya relatif murah, yah namanya juga band punk rock. Hanya seratus ribu, lebih mahal 20 ribu dari NOFX tempo hari, tapi jauh lebih murah daripada band-band major seperti My Chemical Romance atau Good Charlotte. Ketemu di Senayan ya…

NOFX at Pekan Raya Jakarta

I rarely go to a music concert. I mean, just for special occasions like when there were friends and we could hang out and stuff. I had been to some local bands’ gigs in Jakarta and Bandung. The last music concert I attent to was when Netral launched a new album in Bandung and that’s all. But this concert was a big surprise. NOFX at Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ).

Cool!!! But there were no decent promotions from Marisi Multimedia (EO that brought NOFX to Jakarta & Bali). Only some little flyers? Even the EO doesn’t have website. Oh, I’d be so damned, I really would regret it if not knowing they would come to Jakarta. Luckily Icha accidentally visited the NOFX website that time and found out that Jakarta was on their tour list.

At first, we thought it would be fun if we could take couple days off to Bali and watch NOFX playing at Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK). But at D-2 there were no sign at all from Marisi Multimedia that NOFX were going to play in Bali. They said it’s all about security. I didn’t want to take risk so I booked two NOFX tickets (at PRJ). Well, the ticket was actually pretty cheap. It was only Rp.80,000 per person.

I thought there’d be chaos going on if NOFX were playing in Jakarta, moreover it took place in PRJ. But, everything seemed ok, cause there were a lot of cops with canes around. The crowd behaved in a manner and I didn’t see any violence even though some kids there were drunk in public. And ohh, Icha spotted Eno Netral and Edi Brokoli among the audiences.

King Lychee from Hong Kong opened the show. They were like average hardcore band until I noticed that the backing singer was a girl with a mohawk and she growled! Nice. Later on, Fat Mike and gangs came up the stage and everybody was screaming so loud when they first play the first song. Some songs that they played was ‘Dinosours Will Die’, ‘Linoleum’, ‘Don’t Call Me White’, Eat The Meek’, ‘Murder The Government’ etc.

NOFX rocks! Thanks to Marisi Multimedia, the show was great. And the most important thing that we managed to get some NOFX Asia Tour 2007 t-shirt.
